Rock n' Raft Adventures
Spend the morning rappelling into the Rio Grande Gorge and experience the vertical world of Rock Climbing! After a hardy deli style lunch buffet along the banks of the Rio Grande, delve into the refreshment and excitement of class III rapids on the Racecourse section of the Rio Grande. Experience maximum fun and an action packed day! It's a great way to spend a summer day.
No experience necessary. This course is designed to be exciting for everyone!
This trip can be done in reverse.
SEASON: Trips are available from April 15-October 15, with biggest whitewater conditions during May and June. The rappelling is cooler in the early summer and warmer later.
SAFETY: The day of your trip you'll read and sign the waiver form, assuming the normal risks of participation in a guided outdoor activity. River trips and rappelling contain an element of risk. Mountain Skill and Los Rios River Runners are thoroughly equipped and prepared to minimize the risks. We use quality manufactured self-bailing river rafts and all certified climbing equipment. Your guides are all experienced professionals, guide qualifications include wilderness first aid, CPR, and Swiftwater Rescue training.
PARTICIPANTS: Recommended minimum age is 6 years or older, on a case by case basis. Our guides will teach you all you need to know about rappelling and climbing techniques. The river adventure is a paddle raft or during low water funyaks are an additional option.
Weight limit is 300lbs
COST: $165 per person. A 50% per person deposit confirms your reservation, with payment in full required no later than the day before the trip. All major credit cards are accepted.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO PILAR:
Each six hour tour begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Rio Grande Gorge Visitor's Center in Pilar, NM.
From Taos, 16 miles south of the Taos Plaza on NM Highway 68, in between mile markers 28 and 29 you will find the Rio Grande Gorge Visitor's Center on the east side of the highway. Allow 30 minutes driving time.
From Santa Fe, take U.S. Highway 285N to Espanola, then NM Highway 68 toward Taos, in between mile markers 28 and 29 you will find the Rio Grande Gorge Visitor's Center on the east side of the highway. Allow an hour and 45 minutes from Santa Fe.
